Departures Every Month, a Project That Adapts to Your Reality

You will find information here about medical tourism and planning your stay in Mérida, Mexico. Voyages Renaissance organizes departures throughout the year, allowing you to explore your project at a pace that aligns with your personal circumstances, availability, and preparation.

Whether your project is planned for the coming months or still in the early stages of reflection, we invite you to discuss your goals with us. Our team takes the time to listen, provide information about the possibilities available to you, and support you through the next steps at a pace that feels right for you.

Voyages Renaissance clients may obtain information from Global Protective Solutions (GPS), whose programs are administered by Custom Assurance Placements Ltd.

Depending on the coverage selected and the terms of the applicable policy, this type of specialized insurance may provide protection related to travel as well as certain eligible medical complications that may occur following a planned procedure abroad.

Coverage may include, depending on the policy chosen, certain additional medical expenses, travel or accommodation costs resulting from a complication, medical transportation or repatriation, as well as other travel-related protections.

Insurance

Any medical or surgical procedure involves risks, and complications can occur even when all appropriate precautions are taken. When travel is undertaken for the purpose of receiving a planned procedure abroad, some traditional travel insurance policies may exclude events or expenses related to that procedure.

It is therefore important to carefully review your coverage and learn about insurance solutions specifically designed for medical tourism before your departure.

Voyages Renaissance is not an insurer, insurance broker, or insurance representative. We do not sell insurance products, do not determine eligibility for coverage or claims, and cannot interpret an insurance policy or guarantee that a specific expense or complication will be covered.

Our role is to inform you about the existence of specialized insurance solutions that may be relevant in the context of medical travel and to facilitate access to the resources needed to obtain additional information.

It is your responsibility to determine the level of protection you wish to purchase, based on your personal situation, your risk tolerance, the financial risk you are prepared to assume, and the cost of the coverage. Voyages Renaissance cannot determine the amount or type of coverage that may be appropriate for your situation.

Before purchasing any insurance product, it is your responsibility to review the policy, including its coverages, limitations, exclusions, eligibility requirements, coverage duration, and claims procedures, and to direct any questions to the provider or the authorized professional concerned.

The information presented on this page is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute advice, a recommendation, or an offer of insurance. Coverages, exclusions, limitations, and conditions are those set out in the applicable insurance policy and may be modified by the provider. In the event of any discrepancy between the information presented here and the insurance policy, the provisions of the policy shall prevail..

Need Financing for Your Project?

A medical travel journey represents a significant investment, and every person plans their project according to their own financial reality.

Voyages Renaissance collaborates with Medicard by iFinance, an independent financing provider, to help clients explore financing options that may be available for their project.

You may apply directly through Medicard to learn about your eligibility, available amounts, and the financing options that may be offered to you.

Below, you will find a short informational video and a payment calculator designed to help you explore different financing possibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Every surgical procedure involves risks, whether it is performed in Quebec or abroad. No preparation process can eliminate all risks or guarantee the absence of complications. At Voyages Renaissance, our approach is to help you better understand your project, prepare for it thoughtfully, and obtain the information you need to make an informed decision.

A Medical Evaluation Before Booking
Before any travel arrangements are confirmed, your file is submitted to the independent medical team involved in your project. Based on the medical information available, they review your health profile and assess relevant risk factors within the scope of their professional responsibilities.

You then receive an evaluation report outlining the findings, recommendations, and, when applicable, any elements that should be investigated, corrected, or clarified before a procedure can be considered.

This process cannot predict every possible complication, nor can it guarantee that surgery will proceed. Its purpose is to identify, when possible, certain known risk factors before you commit to the various steps involved in your journey.

For us, this step is important. Whenever possible, we want to reduce the likelihood that someone organizes a trip, takes time away from work, and prepares physically and emotionally, only to discover after arrival that a newly identified issue prevents the procedure from moving forward.

Preparing for the Unexpected

Our support extends beyond coordinating your stay. We help you prepare for the possibility of an unexpected situation, including guidance on who to contact in the event of an emergency, what steps to take if your return to Canada is affected, and which resources may be available should a problem arise.

We also provide information about the importance of obtaining insurance appropriate for medical tourism. Coverage, exclusions, eligibility requirements, claims decisions, and policy interpretation remain solely the responsibility of the independent insurer involved.

Choosing a Hospital Environment
Procedures coordinated through Voyages Renaissance are performed by independent healthcare professionals within hospital facilities selected for their environment and available resources.

For us, this distinction matters. Depending on its facilities and the situation encountered, an independent clinic may need to transfer a patient to another institution if hospital-level care becomes necessary. Such a transfer may involve ambulance services and additional transportation.

For this reason, we prioritize hospital environments where a variety of medical resources are available on site. The availability, use, and medical decisions related to those resources remain exclusively the responsibility of the hospital and the healthcare professionals involved.

Continued Support Throughout Recovery
After your discharge from the hospital, the nursing follow-up services included in your care pathway are provided by independent healthcare professionals. These follow-ups may include monitoring elements within their scope of practice, such as vital signs and postoperative recovery.

The hotel used during our stays is also located in close proximity to the hospital, which we consider an important logistical advantage during the first days of recovery. However, proximity should never be considered a substitute for emergency services or a medical evaluation when one is required.

Our Role: Preparing and Supporting You
Voyages Renaissance is neither a healthcare facility nor a provider of medical care. Evaluations, recommendations, eligibility decisions, procedures, and medical treatments remain the responsibility of the independent healthcare professionals and facilities involved.

Our role is to organize and coordinate your medical journey, facilitate the different stages of the process, and support you before, during, and after your stay within the limits of our responsibilities.

We can never promise that a surgery or medical journey will be without risk, nor can we predict every possible situation. What we can commit to is preparing you to the best of our knowledge, with honesty, transparency, and compassion, so that you have the information needed to make your own informed decision.

Because supporting someone well is not only about preparing for what is expected. It is also about helping them think through what could happen if things do not go exactly as planned.

This is precisely one of the reasons why a medical evaluation is completed before any official travel reservation is made. The goal is not to send someone abroad at all costs, but rather to determine, as early as possible, whether the project may be considered appropriate based on the assessment of the independent healthcare professionals involved.

If the medical team identifies a risk factor, they may recommend additional testing, a consultation with a specialist, improvements to certain health parameters, or a postponement of the project. In some situations, they may also determine that a particular procedure—or a combination of procedures—is not recommended.

This does not necessarily mean that your project is permanently impossible. Sometimes additional preparation is required, the project needs to be modified, or certain conditions must first be met. These recommendations and decisions remain exclusively the responsibility of the healthcare professionals involved.

Voyages Renaissance then supports you in understanding the next administrative and organizational steps, facilitating the transmission of information when required and, when possible, helping you continue your journey once the requested conditions have been met.

We would rather see a project postponed, modified, or even declined than encourage someone to move forward with a project that the medical team does not consider appropriate for their situation. For us, that transparency is an essential part of making a truly informed decision.

Yes. Communication with your surgeon is an integral part of the process and extends well beyond the day of your procedure.

Before your trip, a virtual consultation with the surgeon is scheduled to discuss your project, answer your questions, and help you better understand the procedure being considered. Once in Mexico, you will meet with the surgeon again before surgery so that a final evaluation can be completed, the surgical plan reviewed with you, and any remaining questions addressed.

Follow-up continues during your hospitalization and again through a meeting with the surgeon during your recovery period. Several months after your return home, a virtual follow-up appointment is also planned to review your progress.

For our part, all medical questions are directed to the independent surgical team. Voyages Renaissance can facilitate communication and support you throughout the process, but we do not provide medical recommendations and do not replace healthcare professionals.

We believe that having access to your surgical team before, during, and after your procedure contributes to stronger continuity throughout your journey.

You do not need to know exactly which procedure may be right for you before contacting us. In fact, one of the reasons your project is evaluated before any decision is made is to help determine which options may be appropriate for your situation.

The process begins by discussing your story, what you hope to improve, your priorities, and your expectations. We then gather the information and documents required to prepare your file and submit it to the surgeon and the independent medical team involved in your evaluation.

The surgeon then reviews your situation, taking into consideration factors such as your anatomy, overall health, medical history, previous procedures, risk factors, and personal objectives. Based on that evaluation, the surgeon may determine which procedures could be considered, which may not be recommended, and, when applicable, whether certain procedures could or should not be combined.

Voyages Renaissance does not choose your procedure and does not provide medical recommendations. Our role is to coordinate this stage, facilitate the exchange of information, and support you throughout the process so that you can discuss the available options with the surgeon and make an informed decision that respects both your priorities and the medical recommendations provided.

The length of your stay depends on the type of procedure, the progress of your recovery, and the recommendations provided by the healthcare professionals involved in your care. In general, journeys coordinated through Voyages Renaissance typically range from approximately 7 to 14 days, depending on the project.

This timeframe is planned to allow for the procedure itself, hospitalization when required, the initial recovery period in destination, and the follow-up appointments scheduled before returning home.

However, your return date always remains subject to your health status and the recommendations of the medical team. Recovery can vary from one person to another, and in certain exceptional situations, an extended stay may be recommended or required.

Voyages Renaissance organizes your stay based on the information available during the planning process, but cannot guarantee in advance the exact duration of recovery or the date of return from a medical perspective. This is also why we help clients prepare for the possibility of adjustments should the situation require it.

There is no single price for a medical travel journey. The overall budget depends on the procedure being considered, your medical needs, the healthcare professionals involved, the length of your stay, flights, accommodations, transportation, and the various services required for your project.

To help you plan, each project category on our website includes sample budget ranges designed to provide a general idea of the investment that may be required before beginning your journey. Actual costs are then established based on your specific project and the services required.

When it comes to surgery and health, our philosophy is not to pursue the lowest possible price by removing elements that we believe are important. Instead, we have chosen to build what we consider a premium experience, placing significant value on preparation, the hospital environment, the healthcare professionals involved, follow-up care, logistics, and personalized support.

We believe that healthcare decisions should not be made based on price alone. It is important to understand what is included, what is not included, and what resources may be available if your journey does not unfold exactly as expected.

At Voyages Renaissance, our goal is not to be the least expensive option. Our goal is to provide a structured, high-quality experience built on years of experience and support, and to allow you to decide whether that approach aligns with your priorities and what you are looking for.

We are not trying to build the cheapest journey. We are trying to build one we can stand behind with confidence and would feel comfortable recommending to someone we care about.

No. Voyages Renaissance is neither a healthcare facility nor a medical care provider, and it does not sell medical packages. Our role is to organize, coordinate, and facilitate the different components of your medical travel journey, while supporting you throughout the various stages of the process.

Surgeons, healthcare professionals, hospitals, laboratories, and other medical service providers are independent professionals or organizations. They remain solely responsible for their evaluations, recommendations, medical decisions, procedures, and treatments.

Likewise, the other service providers involved in your stay—including hotels, transportation providers, airlines, and insurance companies—are independent organizations responsible for the services they provide.

Our role is to bring these different components together around your project, facilitate communication, coordinate the organizational aspects of your journey, and support you before, during, and after your stay.

The services included in your project, the providers involved, and the applicable costs are presented and identified before your reservation so that you can clearly understand what is included, who is responsible for each service, and make your decision with full knowledge of the facts.

Yes. Many of our clients choose to travel on their own, and the support provided by Voyages Renaissance is designed to ensure that you have assistance throughout the organization of your stay. Before departure, we help prepare you for the different stages of the journey so that you know where to go, what to expect, and who to contact if you need assistance.

While in destination, our team coordinates the support and services included in your journey. Additional resources and services may also be arranged based on your needs during recovery.

In some situations, particularly for certain reconstructive procedures or when multiple procedures are combined, we may recommend travelling with a companion whenever possible. The first days of recovery can sometimes require additional assistance with daily activities, and having a trusted person nearby may provide both practical support and added comfort.

The need for a companion can also vary depending on the procedure performed, your level of independence, your overall health, and the recommendations of the healthcare professionals involved.

Travelling alone is therefore possible in many situations, but our priority is helping you plan a level of support that is appropriate for both your project and your recovery.

After many years in the field of medical tourism and hundreds of clients supported throughout their journeys, our team has learned that preparing for a medical travel experience involves much more than simply making reservations.

Experience allows us to anticipate many of the questions that may arise, pay attention to details that people often do not think about when going through this type of experience for the first time, and help prepare you not only for what is expected to happen, but also for situations that may require adaptation along the way.

We know what information should be shared at the right time, what to plan for in your luggage, how to organize your stay and return home, which questions are important to ask, which documents should be prepared, and which situations should form part of your contingency planning. We have also learned to recognize where our role ends and where the role of healthcare professionals begins.

Our experience does not allow us to predict every unexpected situation or replace medical expertise. What it does allow us to do is help you better prepare for a journey we know very well, but that is often entirely new for you.

Over the years, we have come to understand something important: good preparation is not only about organizing a trip. It is also about reducing uncertainty, helping you ask the right questions, and arriving in Mérida with a much clearer understanding of what to expect.

You may be experiencing this journey for the first time. We have had the privilege of supporting it hundreds of times, and all of that experience is put to work in helping you prepare.

Yes. Members of our team are present in Mérida during your stay and, whenever possible, we make every effort to be there during the important moments of your journey.

We are not physically with every client 24 hours a day, and that is not the objective. After a procedure, your priority should be to rest, recover, and follow the recommendations provided by the medical team. Our role is to support you, not to turn your recovery into a schedule of activities.

That said, throughout your stay, our team remains available 24 hours a day should you need assistance. This availability is not a medical emergency service and never replaces healthcare professionals or emergency services. If a situation requires medical attention, our role is to help facilitate communication with the appropriate resources and assist with coordination when needed.

Our commitment is simple: to give you the space you need to recover while ensuring that you are never left feeling alone. We do our best to be present when our presence can truly make a difference and remain available to support you both in the expected moments and when unexpected situations arise.

Being present without being intrusive, allowing you to recover without leaving you to navigate the experience on your own—that is also part of the Voyages Renaissance approach.

Yes. Your journey does not end when you board the plane home. Even before your departure to Mexico, we help you prepare for your return by discussing the resources available to you, your contingency plan, the people you may need to contact, and the steps to follow should a particular situation arise.

This preparation is part of our philosophy because we believe it is important to help you become more autonomous throughout your journey. Once you are back home, you should know what to do, who to contact, and in which situations consultation with a healthcare professional may be necessary.

Our human support continues as well. Julie remains involved in following your experience after your return, including check-ins, questionnaires, and requests for photographs when required to facilitate communication with the surgeon and help support continuity throughout your journey. Depending on your follow-up plan, a virtual appointment with your surgeon may also be scheduled several months after your return, with a member of our team present when appropriate.

Our guides, protocols, and preparation tools also remain available to you. They are designed to help you revisit the information provided before your trip and return to the plan that was prepared together whenever questions arise.

Our team remains available to provide human support, assist with aspects that fall within our role, and facilitate communication with the different professionals involved when necessary. Depending on your situation, follow-up appointments with healthcare professionals may also be planned.

However, our support and the transmission of information to the surgeon never replace a medical consultation. If you are concerned about your condition, if you experience symptoms that require evaluation, or if the situation appears urgent, you should consult the appropriate healthcare resources in Quebec without waiting for a response from Voyages Renaissance, Julie, or the surgeon abroad.

For us, supporting you well means helping you become autonomous, maintaining continuity after your return, and remaining humanly present while providing the tools needed to recognize when the right decision is to consult directly with a healthcare professional.
